Having called Tampa home for 17 years, I've seen firsthand how housing affordability ebbs and flows in our city and beyond. Right now, Orlando and Tampa are among several Florida cities where the dream of homeownership is challenging—today, buying a median-priced home in Orlando requires 58.4% more income than the median. In fact, all 12 Florida cities studied are considered unaffordable at the moment. But there is hope on the horizon: by 2031, as incomes are projected to rise faster than housing costs, some of these communities are expected to become more attainable for buyers. My background in retail taught me the importance of finding the perfect fit, and in real estate, that means helping clients navigate these shifting landscapes with honesty and heart. While the numbers might seem daunting now, I remain optimistic that our neighborhoods will become more accessible in the coming years—for both newcomers and locals alike.
